Bead embroidery pattern of icon "Holy Zachary"

St. Zacharias was killed by order of King Herod when he sought to kill all the children born at that time in order to get rid of the future “King of Israel.” The legend says that Zacharias was killed in the temple, and his martyrdom was a testament to his devotion to God. When John was born, Zechariah piously accepted God's will and, as soon as he opened his mouth, began to bless God by singing a famous song known as the “Blessing of Zechariah” or “Benedictus” (from the Latin word “Benedictus” - blessed). In this prayer, he heralded the great significance of the birth of his son, who was destined to become the forerunner of the Savior. St. Zacharias was a priest in the Old Testament and lived during the reign of King Herod. He belonged to a priestly family, and his wife, St. Elizabeth, was a relative of the Mother of God. Zacharias and Elizabeth were pious people, but for a long time they had no children because Elizabeth was barren. However, the angel of the Lord appeared to St. Zacharias, announcing to him that his wife would give birth to a son, whom they should name John. At first Zacharias doubted this, so the angel commanded him to keep silent until the son was born. St. Zacharias is considered an example of faith and obedience to God's will. His life shows how God can send blessings even in old age, and how important it is to trust God in all life circumstances. His intercession is asked for in family matters, as well as to strengthen faith.
