However, after this victory, Elijah had to flee from Jezebel, who wanted to kill him. He hid in the desert, where an angel appeared to him and helped him in his time of need. Martyrdom and ascension: Elijah did not die an ordinary death. According to the biblical description, at the end of his life he was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire, which is one of the most glorious events in his life. This ascension of Elijah to God before the eyes of his disciple, the prophet Elisha, was a sign of the prophet's great holiness and his special place among the prophets. Veneration: The Holy Prophet Elijah is one of the most venerated saints in Christianity, and his memory is celebrated on different dates in different Christian traditions.
